Blair Castle hits Gold standard for second time

Blair Castle is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the highest accolade under the Green Tourism Business Scheme for the second consecutive year.  The team at Blair Castle Caravan Park were also rewarded with a Silver Green Tourism award, also achieved for a second time.

The awards recognise Blair Castle and Blair Castle Caravan Park’s management teams’ support in creating green action plans for future improvements to green policy and practice.
Scott McCauley, Head of Visitor Services at Atholl Estates said:
“I am delighted that the castle has once again achieved gold award and that the caravan park has achieved silver award. This is an excellent accomplishment and I would like to thank both teams for their efforts in maintaining a good and sensible approach to green tourism and sustainability.”
The Green Tourism Business Scheme has been running since 1997 and is the largest and most established scheme of its type in the world. It is now recognised by the Scottish Government as a crucial part of its drive towards making Scotland one of the most sustainable tourism destinations in Europe.
The Green Tourism Business Scheme is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK with some 2000 members stretching from the south-west of England to the Highlands of Scotland.
Businesses are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and environmental awareness training.
The current network of members is comprised of a wide range of business types including accommodation providers, visitor attractions, corporate offices and conference venues.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme, which is now operational in all regions of England and Scotland, ensures members have to meet rigorous minimal standards from over 150 measures of best practice before being awarded a coveted bronze, silver or gold award.
