Family Fun - Children's Activities at Blair Castle

Children are warmly welcomed at Blair Castle and there are plenty of activities throughout the year to entertain and engage families.

Activities inside the castle

New for this year is our children’s Castle Detectives Challenge. Using the picture clues provided, children have to hunt down castle treasures and work out the answers. Parents may also be allowed to join in! The activity sheet is collected in the Castle Entrance Hall and takes children around the castle room by room.

There is a children’s colouring area in our Treasure Room where children can get creative and their parents can concentrate on the vast array of exhibits.

Children’s Tours

Marvel at amazing treasures and find out some fascinating facts on a Children’s Tour. Our friendly guides will help children to understand life in the castle and discover secrets and stories to make their visit special. Tours are especially suitable for children over 5 years.

Days: Every Saturday from 3^rd April to 23^rd October.

Daily throughout the Easter and Summer Holidays.

Times: Tour departure times will vary but will generally be morning and afternoon, please ask at reception or check the information board in the car park for details.

Duration: Approx. 30 minutes

Prices: Free with standard castle entry tickets

Booking: In person only at the castle Entrance Hall. Numbers are limited and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Activities outside the castle

Our children’s outdoor trail takes families into the gardens and grounds around the castle, encouraging them to explore our beautiful gardens and magnificent trees. A great opportunity to discover the wildlife close up - you might even spot one of our many red squirrels. Trail maps can be collected from our Castle Entrance Hall.

The exciting Woodland Adventure Playground is just within Diana’s Grove and is an ideal area to let off some steam! Toddlers will also enjoy the enclosed play area next door which includes swings and a climbing frame.

Tractor Rides

Take a vintage tractor and trailer ride around Blair Castle Grounds as part of your visit. A fun and leisurely way to enjoy sightings of red deer, highland ponies and colourful peacocks along the way!

Days: Tractor Rides will take place every weekend from 28^th March to 24^th October and daily during the summer holidays.

Times: Rides start from 12 noon. Please check times on arrival.

Tour Duration: approximately 20 minutes

Cost: Adults £2 and Children £1

Tours depart from the castle forecourt.

Family fun with Rangers around gardens and grounds

Explore the Castle grounds with the ranger. We might be looking for beasties and bugs, exploring the pond or investigating giant trees and playing games. Suitable for 5-11 year olds. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Days: Will take place every Monday and Thursday (except for Thursday 26th August) from July to August.

Times: 2pm-3pm

Cost: Free as part of castle or grounds admission
